It is with great sadness that I write this message. Sonya passed away on Friday the 26th of July 2019 after a long and brave battle against cancer.
Her family spoke so highly of her and how she handled her illness, right to the end. She trusted the lord totally … a lesson to us all.
Together with Marion Cook and Barbara Haefela, Sonya was a founder member of the team that made Renewing Love available to women in South Africa. And I know how grateful so many of us are today for having had those teachings. Teachings that revolutionised our approach to womanhood, marriage and family.
Sonya was a woman of influence who selflessly sought to share what she had learned with others. The teachings of Renewing Love had made a very real impact on her own life and had certainly established the godly foundation for her marriage to Ray.
For the team in Cape Town, Sonya was a testimony to the love and sustaining power of God. She was feisty, brave and so full of love for the Lord and others. She wrote wonderful letters of encouragement, gave numerous Renewing Love courses personally and found a way to make these same principles available to woman on line. She sang the scriptures with such a deep, sincere love for her Lord that encouraged us all, if not to sing the scriptures then to memorise them.
And then she gave her energy, support and love to Love Renewed. The shorter version of the Renewing Love Principles. No tribute that I write could ever give a true reflection of this very special lady … But I know we loved her, we admired her and we were all greatly influenced by her.
And now she has gone to be with her Lord. Our hearts say thank you, we shall miss you and we are so privileged to have been part of ministry with you.
Rest in Peace our Precious Sister.
She is very greatly missed.
As one who attended one of the early Renewing Love classes, I remember Sonya. Deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
